SPOONBILL CATFISH SNAGGING/and Sandbass fishing
If you want to catch some very large fish, then Spoonbill snagging is for you. We mainly do the snagging at Chouteau Bend. Chouteau Bend is about 30 miles East of Tulsa on the Grand river, or the very upper end of Lake Fort Gibson. We also do a lot of Sandbass(White bass) fishing there. Both of these fish are the most active there in the months of February, March, and April. The Paddle fish(or Spoonbill catfish) range in weigths from 20 to 80lbs. Although the state record is over 100lbs. Sandbass will weigh up to 3 to 4lbs,
The majority of our fishing for Spoonbill at Chouteau Bend is done while trolling around 2.5 to 3mph with the lines out behind the boat and jerking. We do not do any casting. For Sandbass we mainly use live shad cast into eddies and along shore line and brush piles or sometimes troll with lures.
It is some great fishing and a great time.
