Fishing Reports
March
I have decided since the Hybrid fishing has been so slow not to take any more trips out for a while. The ones I have scheduled we moved to mid April or later. Apr. 4th I go to Ouachita an come back on the 14th. I have three guide trips there and then I am staying on vacation for a few days. I'll start fishing Skiatook and Sooner again then. The water on Skiatook needs to warm up 4 or 5 more degrees. And I am not sure what happened to Sooner this spring. It should be going great right now. Blackwell is about the same as Skiatook only a little cooler. I will do some scout trips :) to Skiatook between now and then to try and find some active fish.
Fish ON!!!
Almost as slow as it gets. We caught one fish and that was it. The wind was suppose to be out of the west, instead it was out of the north about 20mph. We were only going out for three hours, so I decided to start where we left off yesterday. It still showed fish and some bait but not much. Did a lot of chumming tried trolling but nothing seemed top work. Moved and found some more bait and fish. We had a couple of pull downs but nothing in the boat. I'll sure be glade when the fishing gets better. Water temp. was 52deg.
Slow windy day. I don't know where the wind was going, but I bet it is there by now. We had a real hard time
finding fish. We kept looking and finally found some 50deg. water and the bait and fish were there. Not quite what we were looking for, but we couldn't look around or move around much due to the wind. We had several pull downs that we missed because of the rocking of the boat. We ended up with 5 sandbass and 1 8 lb blue catfish. I thought if we could of moved around a little we may of had better luck where we were at. There was lots of bait and fish in the area. We caught all of the Sandbass on downlines and the catfish on freelining cut bait. We were in 25 to 30 ft. of water.
A slow good day. Although we didn't quite have the day we were looking for, we had a pretty
exciting afternoon. Again we didn't catch a fish the first three hours and after looking for them out on the lake, we ended up back in the channel. About 4:30 we started catching some small hybrids and sandbass, and then we caught a 7.14 LMB. He was some real excitement. Then we had a fish on that hasn't caused that much excitement in the boat since I caught my 82.68 blue on sooner. Jacob did a great job on getting him to the boat, we got some lines cleared and I still wasn't sure what it was, until he showed his head. It was a 40 to 50lb blue catfish, I didn't have a big enough net so I was trying to figure out how to get him on over in the boat when he rolled and got the line in his gill and looked at me in the the eyes and off he went. We all kinda figured he was caught since I had my hand on the leader, but I didn't get him in the boat. That is the second time I have needed a big net on Sooner and didn't have it. Last summer it was a 25lb Striper. I lipped him and got him in. I didn't want to lip the blue. I will take my big net from now on whenever I go to Sooner.
We ended the day with about 15 fish. All of the hybrids were small. The water temp. in the channel was 62deg and 48deg out on the lake. The fish were caught on cut bait and small baits.
Slow cold day. Fished with some anglers form Kansas that I had been looking forward too for a while. It was
cold and fairly windy. It was 19deg. last night and a bright clear day today, so that made for a bad combination. However, we did give it our best shot. We ended up with a mix bag of fish. With the biggest fish of the day, being a LMB that weighed 5.13lb. The biggest Hybrid was about 4lbs. We caught 8 fish in the 3 hours that we fished. Last week all of the fish that we caught came on cut bait. This week we didn't catch any on cut bait. All came on downlines and small bait. The water temp. at the boat ramp was 45deg and in the channel it was 51deg. We were in about 15 to 20ft of water most of the afternoon.
Slow and Windy. It started out slow and windy and didn't change a hole lot. We tried the channel first with no
luck so we went out into the main lake. The wind was blowing from hard to harder so we got a little wet on that ride. We fished for a little bit with no luck so we went back to the channel area. It took both anchors to hold in the strong south wind. I put out some cut bait and caught a couple of fish. So I put out some more poles with cut bait and caught more fish. The majority of the fish came on poles with the cut bait and no weights. By the end of the day we had 14 fish with the biggest being a 5lb Hybrid. The water temp on the main lake was 42deg. and in the channel it was 55deg. We were in 18ft. of water.
