Ouachita Striper fishing was not bad. It could of been better but it could of been worst. We caught 22 in 2 1/2 days of fishing. We did real good one afternoon. Other than that it was one here and one there. We had a couple of doubles. Water temp. was 50deg. The biggest was 15lbs. Most were 10 to 12lbs.

Started out fast and ended slow. Fished from 10:30 till 4:30 and caught 18. Most were in the 3 to 4 lb HPIM4831[1].jpg range with a couple 5's. It was cloudy and windy when we started and about 1:30 it cleared off and the fish quit biting. Some were caught on downlines and some on free lines with small split shot. They seemd to want the smaller bait, but most of the bait I had were medium size. We had several on that just came off. I noticed after a while that some of the ones that we were getting in the boat were just holding on to the bait and wouldn't let go. Some of them couldn't let go because the bait was lodged in there mouth.(Thats what alittle bit of greed will get you) I changed some rods over to small treble hooks and that seemed to help the hook up ratio. We were fishing in the discharge are in 25ft. The water temp. was 54deg. We did go out in the main lake looking for some fish, but didn't see anything. The water temp in the main lake was 47deg. The fishing could of been alittle better but it could of been alot worse.

Fished for two full days with alittle success. We caught 20 to 25 pretty nice Stripers. We had four that went 15lbs and the rest were between 8 and 12lbs. It was alittle cool, alot of the fish were in deep water. The last morning we found them is 15ft and very active. We caught 7 the last morning but missed or broke off several for some reason. the water temp. was right at 50deg. Saw alot of Bald Eagles. We ssaw some deer swimming across the lake and we even got buzzed by two F-18's following the lake terrian about 150ft off of the lake. Over all it was a very good weekend.

Fished with a friend. We had trouble getting bait so we only had 30 baits. We pulled up on some fish and started catching fish right away. I was using the live bait and Tony used jigs. After I would catch a fish I would lay the old bait in the boat. After we ran out of live bait we started using cut shad. The action wasn't quit as fast, but it was pretty good. When we ran out of the cut shad, we went and tried to get some more shad on Sooneer. All we got was some real big baits. We ended up using them as cut bait and continued to catch fish. By the end of the day we figure we had caught 40 to 50 Sandbass and Hybrids. The biggest Hybrid was about 5lbs. We were in 25ft of water, on the discharge side and the water temp. there was 54deg. Overall it was a very good day. FISH ON.
