Fishing Reports

April

Skiatook - Apr 25, 06

IM000459.jpgFished hard all afternoon in a cold north wind(50degrees and 20mph). The water temp dropped about 5 degrees and it was the day after some pretty good storms. The fish were not real active. We managed to catch about 10 small hybrids with a few green bass mixed in. Some of the fish were caught in 5 ft. and some were caught in 28 ft. Almost all were on downlines, using small baits. They were on the skinny side. It appears they have tried to spawn. Considering the conditiond it was still a pretty good trip.

Ouachita - Apr 22, 06

It was very slow fishing. We did manage to catch a few fish. Most were in IM000458.jpg the 10 to 12 range. All but one was caught on planner boards with small split shot. The water temp was 72. And the lake level was normal or alittle above. It was real nice weather, but maybe to nice. There was hardly any wind both days and the camp grounds were full with crappie fishermen. A good friend did catch a 41.2 almost right in front of us. It was nice to see some one catch a nice fish, I just wish it would of been us.

Skiatook - Apr 15, 06

IM000452.jpgThe wind was blowing hard out of the south which made it alittle difficult, however that did help by having the shad pushed up shallow. We caught several fish in about a foot of water on planner boards up next to the bank. Tthe water temp was still about 62. Most were in 4 to 5 range with a few  6 to 6 1/2 was the biggest . We did manage to catch our limit. It ended up being a good day, just alittle windy.

Skiatook - Apr 14, 06

Caught several fish. Most were in the 4 to 5 range with a few 6 to 6 1/2 . IM000451.jpgCaught some early than it slowed down till about 8. Then it really picked up. We caught most on planner boards with split shot or ballons with split shot. Caught some on down lines. Most fish were in 5 to 8 feet of water. Water temp was 62. I cleaned 17 nice Hybrids.

Ouachita - Apr 08, 06

IM000445.jpgWe caught fish everytime we went out but the numbers were not real good. The biggest we caught was 15. Most were in the 10 to 13 range. Water temp was 60 to 65. All the fish we caught were males. I am not sure where the females are. I stayed a couple of extra days with the same luck. Overall it was a good trip.

Skiatook - Apr 04, 06

IM000444.jpgFISH ON  What a day on the water. It was a beautiful day and the fish were biting. And I do mean biting.  We looked around alittle bit, but then we found the fish in about 30 feet of water. We caught about 35. I cleaned for the clients 10 very nice Hybrids. The biggest was 6.5. But we had several in the 5 to 6 lb range. Almost all were caught on downlines, while slightly jigging the shad off of the bottom. Water temp. was 59.

Couteau Bend - Apr 02, 06

IM000441.jpgFished with my brother-in-law and had a great time. We caught about 50 sandbass and cleaned 43. The ones we kept were all in the 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 lb range. We started out trolling but was not doing very well.We had gotten some shad so we decided to use them. We went to our favorite spot and the fun was on. We had fish constanly on for about two and half hours. We finally decided to quite. We decided to give the rest of the shad away and had plently of takers. The aritificals were doing ok but they weren't catching the sieze that the shad was. We were fishing with a single split shot and slowing reeling back. The water temp was 67 deg. We were in about 4 ft of water. All of the larger ones were full of eggs.

It was a good afternoon of catching..

Skiatook - Apr 01, 06

IM000439.jpgFished Skiatook on Sat 4-01. We ended up with about 15. The Hybrids were mixed in with the Sandbass. The biggest was about 6. We had 3 or 4 in that range and the rest was in the 2 to 3lb range. Most were caught in about 30 ft of water. The water temp ranged from 54 to 60 degrees. Skiatook is going to do nothing but get better for the next 2 months. The ones we cleaned were full of eggs so they think they are going to spawn. It was a little breezy but overall it was a good afternoon on the water.
