Fishing Reports

Beaver Lake AR. - Aug 15, 10

The Oklahoma Stripe Bass Association had our annual downrigging tournament at Beaver this last weekend.  It was HOT. My friend Russ and I were camped out in our tents and that made it worse. However everyone that entered the tournament caught fish, just not any big ones. The tournament is billed as a night time tournament for downrigging. Thats for a reason. Its HOT in August. However, Russ and I decided to fish live bait on Saturday morning. We caught three on freelines with split shot behind planner boards. Our biggest was 10lbs. We were going to downrigg Saturday night but my motor quit so we weren't able to downrigg. We made it in on the T/M. The big fish for the tournament was a 13lber caught by Mike and Connie Kelly while downrigging. Everybody fished down by the dam. There were lots of fish in the area. Most were coming at around 30ft, in deep water. Other than the heat it was a really good weekend to be out.

FISH ON!!!

Skiatook Lake Oklahoma - Aug 11, 10

Went fishing with a good friend and all we did was fishing, no catching. We new it was going to be a tough day when it took us two hours to get 25 baits. Decided we would downrigg if we found some fish. Well, the finding fish never did happen. Looked at about every spot we coud think of and never did really see any groups of fish that looked like Hybrids. Started downrigging to cover more water and even that didn't work. We did pull the lures thru some good looking arches with no takers. Finally decided to call it quits after about three hours. The 104deg's was starting to get to us. The water temp. was 91degs. The fishing still has not improved on Skiatook, the place to go for the next few weeks will still probably be Sooner. The fishing is still ok there.

Sooner Lake Oklahoma - Aug 06, 10

Fish on!!. My wifes Uncle and Aunt are visiting from CA. so we decided to go fisihing. It could of been a lot better, but it could of been a whole lot worse.. We ended up with 15 but it could of easly been 30. The schools of Hybrids would come thru all poles would go down and we would only get 1 or two of them in(but it would create alot of excitement). All of the fish were on the small side and I think they just weren't getting hooked. Our baits may of been a little big for the size of fish we were catching. It started getting a little hot so we called it quites after about four hours. Most were caught in 34ft of water on downlines, a few on freelines and a couple on cut bait. Water temp. is 88degs. I am real glade we caught fish but it would of been a great day with or with out the fish.

Fishing Report - Jul 25, 10

The fishing has really slowed down. I canceled my trips for this past weekend. I had 5 guide friends that went to Skiatook and Sooner last week and all got Skunked. One of them three times. So I didn't want to try it with all of the conditions still the same. However, the fishing has picked up on Sooner the last couple of days. Saturday was a decent day on Sooner as report from two of my friends. I went to Skiatook for a couple of hours on Saturday by myself and did some downrigging. I caught 1 decent Hybrid. Another guide got Skunked there today using live bait. I didn't try live bait on Saturday. Hopefully once this high pressure moves on, the bite will pick back up(if that is what caused it to slow down).

FISH ON!!!!!    I was out of town this weekend so my son took some friends and did pretty good. They didn't catch a whole lot but they did catch some nice ones. There biggest was 5.5lbs. With several 3 to 4lbs.  Had a few doubles. The fish in the a.m were in 35ft of water. They caught 5 or 6 in the morning. Went back in the afternoon and caught 15 in 55 to 70ft of water. The fish were really on the move. They would catch a few and then they would be gone. They caught them on cut bait, live bait  and downlines and freelines with split shot. water temp. is 85degs.
